GLACIER NATIONAL PARK – Visitors to Glacier National Park are being urged to slow down and pay attention to their surroundings after officials say they’ve responded to a significant number of incidents this week.
A car crash closed Going to the Sun Road for hours on Monday after a vehicle plummeted 40 feet down an embankment. Three people were hurt in that incident.
The famed road was closed again on Tuesday for two hours after a car crash happened east of Apgar. The driver apparently fell asleep behind the wheel and officials say trees likely prevented the car from going into Lake McDonald. Four people were taken to the hospital and traffic was backed up for more than 10 miles.
Park officials further report that on Wednesday a concession employee was thrown from a horse and trampled at the Many Glacier horse corral. She is said to be in stable condition.
Also on Wednesday, a bicyclist crashed on Going to the Sun Road after swerving, likely to avoid a collision with a grizzly bear. The 60-year-old male cyclist was flown to the hospital following the incident.
